NEW - NXT Temperature Sensor

A new temperature sensor has started shipping from Active Robots in the UK!

From their website "The temperature sensor is a digital sensor powered by the NXT brick. Using the NXT brick and NXT software version 2.0, it can be calibrated to measure both Celsius and Fahrenheit (-20 °C to +120 °C/-4 °F to +248 °F)."

Hi!
Just yesterday I have uploaded a small project on YouTube, based on the new NXT Temperature Sensor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plQ8Y3XAKvA).

Of course, this is not a Mars Rover, but just a simple Thermometer. Programmed on the new NXT-G 2.0 with Data Logging, while the NXT Brick firmware was upgraded to V1.26.

I believe it is a good opportunity to see the sensor "in action".

Although the reading range of the sensor is much wider, the reading range of my thermometer was intentionally limited from -15 to 60oC to facilitate the design of this construction.

Some other characteristics of this sensor:
- Reading resolution is one decimal point (e.g. 24.4 degrees).
- The Sensor has a long metal tip (about 64mm). The total sensor tip length, including the plastic "nose", is about 77mm.
- The major difference in comparison to the rest common sensors (such as lignt, US, sound etc.) is that cabling is fixed, meaning that there is no jack on the sensor. Cable length is about 51cm.

Regards

Hi,

Very nice work!

I've had more than a few problems with my rover so havent got to the design of the rover arm yet. I do have an old RCX temp sensor but think i'll be investing in the new one soon.

Thanks!
The price for the sensor is quite fair and it is definitely a good investment. However, you should also consider the price for the new NXT-G (by the way, both NXT-G 2.0 and the new firmware are much improved, including many new functionalities!).
